What Is God Waiting For?

I have had a strong sense, especially since starting this Blog around six weeks ago, that there are many people throughout the world who have a real hunger and desire to know, please and walk with God.

It also seems, from comments I have received, and from my own personal experience, that many are also feeling pressed into a little box, yearning for fullness of life and communion with the Lord and His people, yet feeling frustrated… perhaps even in a sort of agony, as they hope, wait and pray for the fulfillment of their desires.

This leads me to the question:  What is God waiting for?

What will it take for people to somehow get out of their isolation, and see the realization of what they are hoping and praying for?  Why the delay?

My mind is drawn to something Jesus said… that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that nobody can come to the Father, but by Him.

Can it be that we, the children of modern-day “Christianity”, whether we are inside or outside the organized Church, are just too full of our own ways; our own truth; our own (fallen, Adamic) life?

Is it possible that God, in His wisdom, has us fenced in, and unable, in our present condition, to really unite and get with the program?

Do we need, perhaps, to come to a place of utter despair in regards to our own “wisdom”, strength and ability?  And simply and truly cast ourselves at His feet?  And be broken at the cross, so that His life might pour forth?

We want to walk in God’s way.  Well, Jesus is the way.

We desire God’s truth.  He is the truth.

We yearn for true life.  Guess what?  Jesus is the life.

The word of God speaks of the simplicity which is in Christ.  Maybe we have taken that simplicity, and have made it something complicated, driven by a multitude of things, like programs and projects… personal ambitions… selfish motives… natural “wisdom”… preaching stuff, and saying “Amen!”, when we’re not living it… self-righteousness… egos… loveless hearts… empty rituals… warring factions… meetings… five-step formulas… retreats and seminars… and lot’s more.

Perhaps even people who have seen all the corruption, phoniness and hypocrisy are still, somehow bound by “religion” and complexity.  We argue and debate this and that; we put up insightful, wonderful Blogs; we “stand for truth” against the endless onslaught of falsity; we read the insights and wisdom of the wise men and women, past and present; we share marvelous truths with each other.

But, with all our wisdom and ability to communicate truth, it all boils down to this:

In your own life, and in your fellowship with others, is Jesus the way, the truth and the life, in actual, observable deed and reality?  Is He becoming all, and you nothing?  Can people see, when they look at you and your fellowship, that God is real and can radically transform rotten people?

  1. Some of your questions from above:

    1.What is God waiting for?
    Answer – see question 3

    2. “Do we need, perhaps, to come to a place of utter despair in regards to our own “wisdom”, strength and ability? And simply and truly cast ourselves at His feet? And be broken at the cross, so that His life might pour forth?”
Answer: YES – also see question 3

    3. “Is He becoming all, and you nothing?”

Gene, please keep writing as the Lord leads.

  2. I will never forget when I first started having the layers peeled away, I was desperately looking for answers. I asked a Jewish believer what they preach and believe in, where does he stand, what does he do?

He put it simply, we preach Jesus. So I found myself going back to the cross and for now, that is what I am standing on. We do complicate things.

You pose some good insights here and some very needed questions! One of the books in the bible which I do feel I need to read again has a lot of insight. The last paragraph,’ Fear God, and obey his commands because this is all that man was created for. ”

    and everything else is meaningless!

  3. sorry, the book I was quoting was Ecclesiates. Without the fear of God, life is meaningless and everything else under the sun is meaningless just like he says.

  4. Jessie and Getting There,

Thanks again for your fellowship, encouragement and contributions. You both mean a lot to me.

  5. Geno,
Don’t know that I can add much to this. No doubt we have overcomplicated it.
I for one as a first step have spent quite some effort these past couple of years uncomplicating my life. Both from the busyness of the world and the busyness of church programs. Now I’m kind of at the point like OK Lord, where too now.
I find it really easy to entrench myself in study and writing which has been great but it has only highlighted the fact that all is not as it should be. Where too now Lord?

  6. Tim,

You make a great point about study only highlighting how much of a mess things are.

    Where to now, Lord? Indeed.

Read Part 2 of this post if you have time. I also feel I may be adding a Part 3, on a very personal level.

I’m not trying to say or imply that I’M the fountain of wisdom concerning these matters. I simply believe the Lord is opening my eyes to some things, and I’m sharing them as best I can.

  7. I do not need God’s appearance on Earth for me.I need God to stop everything that’s happening on Earth. Look what we are doing to planet, to animals, innocent… I suffer greatly for others, not for me. I will be fine when everyone else is at peace.
