Welcome, followers of the Lord, Jesus

My name is Gene Aptaker. I’m a 55-year-old American man currently living in Viet Nam, but thinking seriously of returning to Knoxville, TN. I can be contacted at geno.aptaker@yahoo.com.

For many years, it has been my desire to see the body of Christ moving beyond “doing Church” to walking with the Lord as genuine, biblical disciples. Of course, I also want to be a part of just such a body of believers.

I sincerely believe that the condition of the Church, the body of Christ, and of the great majority of individual believers, myself included, is far from what the Lord desires for His people. I believe, too, that the scriptures are quite clear that this would be the case, especially as we approach the end of the age.

My hope and desire with this web log (or perhaps it’s more of a standard website) is to draw as much attention as possible to the desperately poor state of the Church as a whole, and to stir and encourage discussion, as well as repentance and change, by the Spirit of the Lord.

My highest hope is that this sick and dying world will begin to see a “grass-roots” movement among the people of God, in pockets here and there, back to a genuine biblical discipleship. I don’t believe this movement can or will occur within the walls of the “Churches”.

The main thrust of what I will do here, for the time being, is to post articles I have written. I say what I do in these papers not out of judgment or self-righteousness, as I have more than my share of failings, sins and shortcomings.

I say these things in the hope that eyes and hearts will be opened to the realities within the Church and that there would be people willing to get before the Lord and genuinely seek Him for the necessary, godly changes that must occur. If ever there was a time for this, it is now.

The papers are not light, easy reading, but I believe the things conveyed in them have been revealed by the Lord and are essential to a return to true, biblical discipleship, not because I have written them, but because the issues presented have always been at the heart of what it means to know, follow and serve the Lord according to His thought; not man’s.

Today’s “Christianity” is generic, powerless and basically useless, and most unbelievers can see this reality. The question is: Why can’t the vast majority of believers see this reality?

My sincere wish is that this website will have some small part in helping people make a practical return to the true Christian faith, with the result that our Lord will be honored and glorified. We say that it’s all about His honor and glory. Now it’s time to conduct ourselves as though we actually mean and believe what we say.

I am very new to blogging so it will surely take some time to establish a web presence and generate thought and dialogue, God willing.

Feel free to post any comments you may have or to email me at geno.aptaker@yahoo.com.

In His glorious name and love.

(The real heart of this blog starts on my homepage.  Please go to it at HOME, and read as much as you’re willing.  I believe these are the major issues the Body of Christ has to face in this day and age)

  1. G’day Gene and greetings from Australia. When I read your comment above it almost sounded very similar to an intro on my blog. I think God is indeed seeking to reach out to His lukewarm church and as the Day of the Lord approaches I think He’s knocking louder.
I see encouraging signs from many but within the popular churches, and anything that comes out of the US, it just seems to get lukewarmer and warmer.
I guess getting ourselves in a place where we can speak into the lives of other believers and lead by example is important from my perspective. God bless. You may be surprised at the similar tone on my intro page.
I’ll keep an eye on your blog and compare notes.
    In Christ,

  2. Tim- It is essential; mandatory, that believers truly begin coming together in humility and brokenness, to walk in the Lord’s ways.

He WILL have such a people, I believe, in relatively small pockets throughout the world. The question is, for each believer, “Will I be a part of this expression of Christ; or not?”

  3. Gene…I believe that we were friends back in Canarsie in the 60’s.
We even went to a Met game together with your friend Howie.
I have to tell you that as a Christian in an OPC church on Long Island there is much luke warmness (including myself). There is also much vibrancy among many of our members.
    I know a paradox!
